Program Overview / Top Ten Reasons
Mix Board

Program Highlights

  • Broadcasting is more than just DJ-ing. The field also includes production and business in both television and radio.
  • Students are able to participate in several school productions, such as graduation and the annual student fashion show.
  • Our curriculum helps to prepare students in the creative, technical, and business aspects of the industry.
  • Students develop an audition CD or DVD that showcases their on-air and producing talents to assist in their employment search.
  • The school has an internet radio station where students are able to gain industry related skills using the college’s AudioVault system, just as professionals use in the field.
  • We have classroom, lab, and client-based courses.
  • The faculty is comprised of working professionals with extensive industry experience.
  • Students are taught how to operate radio and TV equipment and how to edit, produce, and direct in those media.
  • Our curriculum is continually being revised to meet the changing needs of the industry.
  • To keep students, faculty, and staff informed of local current events, our Broadcast Media Production class produces a weekly in-house television news program. Broadcasting students (collaborating with Digital Filmmaking & Video Production students) write, produce, direct, and edit the shows and take turns as anchors and on-air talent.
  • Students frequently participate in field trips and industry tours.
  • The program was started in Fall 1992.

Key Points

  • Because of the industry, the program looks for team players, not individual superstars.
  • The program and industry both require a high-level of commitment from students in order to succeed.
  • Students should begin the program with the recommended program kit and access to a small video camera for practicing.
  • Students are not required to purchase a computer, although it is recommended.
  • If a student purchases a computer, a MAC is recommended for this program.
