Broadcasting Career

  • This is a very small and specialized field. It takes time, talent, and skill to succeed in this industry.
  • Many graduates are hired in an entry-level part-time or freelance position.
  • Jobs are often at night and on the weekends.
  • This is a “pay-your-dues” type of industry – professionals have to start from the bottom and work up.
  • Being an on-air personality is like being an actor and to succeed in the industry, students should have a flexible attitude. Specializing in one particular genre (hip hop, hard rock, news, etc.) can limit job opportunities, just as actors can be typecasted.
