Why Us

Why You Should Study Advertising at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale

1. Our curriculum immerses students in advertising studies starting in the first quarter. (See grid)

2. Getting a job in the advertising industry is competitive, especially without real world experience. We offer a hands-on approach by utilizing our internship and career opportunities, in-house Honors program advertising agency, student clubs, solid relationships within the industry, and on-campus events and lectures from industry professionals. Students have the opportunity to graduate with real-world experience.

3. We offer students a chance to earn a Bachelor of Science degree within 3 years.

4. Small classes. As of April 2007, our average ratio of students to teachers was 15:1, so students get more one-on-one interaction with the faculty.

5. We offer an integrated approach to advertising. The communications industry is diverse and so is our curriculum, which has received input from a committee of current industry professionals. By teaching marketing, research, account management, client/customer relations, copywriting, art direction, interactive communications, sales, branding, public relations, media buying, business operations, basic web design, basic print page layout, and basic video, our program allows students to decide where they would like to go in the field and offers a wider variety of career opportunities.

6. Using 6 open electives, students can choose to focus on 1 of 4 main tracks:

  • Print ads, TV/Broadcast commercials and advertising on the web/interactive
  • Conceptual thinking, copyrighting and public relations
  • Sales & marketing, account management, advertising business management, media buying or production
  • On-line advertising/marketing principles and theories

Tracks have been personalized in the past for students interested in focusing on fashion, video, animation and other areas of marketing.

7. Current teachers are practicing industry professionals within their fields of study.

8. Because this is an applied arts college, we offer an environment that allows advertising students to work and create with creative students from various programs that relate to their own – graphic design, web design, illustration, fashion, broadcasting, video production. Business type personalities will be taught how to speak the same language as the creative departments.

9. Technology (hardware and software) is industry related and is regularly updated.
